Support Groups:
There are many support groups in San Antonio for people with HIV and AIDS.  See how you can hook up with one, what they're about, and when they meet.  Most of these groups do NOT require a referral from your case manager.  

If your group is not listed please contact us so that your information can share the spotlight here with all the other wonderful groups available in San Antonio. 

 

 

 

 
FIRST FRIDAY.... People's Caucus
The People's Caucus is a committee of the Ryan White Council whose mission is to, "To gather information from persons living with HIV/AIDS or affected individuals in order to bring changes and excellence to the San Antonio and South Texas service delivery area."  This committee meets monthly on "first Friday."  Although it does not qualify as a support group, it is a place to address concerns about services being offered.  Lunch will be provided. PWAs are encourage to attend to voice your concerns or just for good fellowship.  Call Chris at 264.2518 for more information.

SUNDAY.... Metropolitan Community Church
Gay Men's POZ Support Group (NO discussion of...... religion)
Meets 4-6PM Sundays at Metropolitan Community Church.  Mostly gay male group, but anyone positive welcome.  Unstructured, pot luck dinner.  Couple hours with a group of guys talking about what concerns them.  Call 264.2518 for information.

 Substance Abuse Group, Meets Noon to 1:00PM.  Call 227.4689 for information.
MONDAY.... Patrician Movement
Meet 5:30-6:30PM, support group lead by case managers. Co-ed. Once a month pot luck dinner. Call 533.0226 for information.
MONDAY.... Mujeres Unidas
Amigos Sin Fronteras (Friends Without Borders)
Meets 5:30-7:30PM Mondays, at Mujeres, for all HIV+ men who are primarily Spanish speaking. Pot luck dinner. Call 738.3393 for information.  

TUESDAY.... BEAT AIDS
African American Alliance

Meets every Tuesday at 10-11:30AM at BEAT, Inc., 218 W. Cypress.  African American Women living with HIV/AIDS support group.  Call 227.4689 for information.

WEDNESDAY.... VA Hospital
Military Veterans Support Group
Meets at 1PM every Wednesday, unstructured, although a Social Worker leads this group.  Limited to veterans and their guests.  Call 617.5300 x15404 for information.  This group is currently and temporarily suspended.
WEDNESDAY....  BEAT AIDS
 Substance Abuse Group
Meets 10AM-Noon at BEAT, INC, 218 W Cypress.  Call 212.2266 for information
WEDNESDAY.... FFACTS Clinic
 Transgendered Support Group
Meets 2PM ever other Wednesday in the conference room.  Call 358.3078 for information.


THURSDAY.... Mujeres Unidas
(Women United)
Meets 6:30PM Thursdays, at Mujeres, for women infected/affected by HIV/AIDS.  Call 738.3393 for information.
THURSDAY... Mujeres Unidas
Entre Familia (Among Family)
Meets at 6:30PM First Thursday of the month, to come together and receive support from other family members of people living with HIV/AIDS. Social with potluck and birthday night. Location varies due to the new Mujeres building being too small to host. Call Mujeres for location of gathering.  Call 738.3393 for information.

 Men's Mental Health Group
Meets every Friday at 10AM at BEAT, Inc., 218 W. Cypress.  For men 31 years of age and older.  Call 227.4689 for information.
FRIDAY.... People's Caucus
 Although this meeting is not a strict support group, it is a monthly meeting of positive people, an arm of the Planning Council, charged with reporting to the council the concern of PLWAs in the metropolitan area.  This caucus currently meets on the first Friday of the month at noon at the San Saba office of the Planning Council.  Call 264.2518 to RSVP for lunch and for information.
FRIDAY....  Family to Family Network (FFN), 
South Texas Family AIDS Network (STFAN)
Meets at 6:00PM the second Friday of the month. It is both a therapeutic and support system for the family. Consists of both an adult and a children's group. Call 358.9582 to RSVP or for more information.

SATURDAY.... Mujeres Unidas
Niņos Unidos (Children United Against AIDS)

Meeting time 10:00AM-2:00PM.   A group to meet the needs of children who are HIV-impacted.  This group is facilitated by social work students. Contact Mujeres at 738.3393.
SATURDAY [1st & 3rd].... BEAT AIDS
Women of Wonder
Meets the 1st & 3rd Saturdays at Noon-2PM at BEAT, Inc. 218 W. Cypress.  Group for women living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.  Peer-led education group,  Movie Days, Arts and Crafts.  Led by Ms. Christina Northrup. Call 831.2049.
SATURDAY [3rd].... PEERS for Women
Meets the 3rd Saturday of the month from Noon-3PM at Metropolitan Church, 611 East Myrtle.  This is an empowerment group for women living with or affected by HIV/AIDS.  Call 738.9644 or 269.7023 for information.
